We hope you had a good Easter and royal wedding/May bank holiday and that you’ve eased yourself back into the swing of things – just in time for half-term!

We’d like to welcome Mrs Harvey onto the PTA Committee and look forward to working together with staff, parents and governors to enhance life at St John’s for all.  Please speak to one of the team if you’d like to get more involved! For more details, please visit our website: www.stjohnspta.org.uk.

We look forward to sharing the upcoming events with you!

Car Boot Sale: Saturday 21 May

This takes place this Saturday, from 9am-12pm.  No need to book; just turn up from 8am. It’s £5 per pitch for sellers and 20p admission for shoppers.  Refreshments will be available.

Play Area Project: June

We are delighted to let you know that work will begin on the next phase of the play area project during half-term – weather permitting!

Exciting plans have been drawn up for the part of the playing field at the end of the playground between the football pitch and the wildlife area.  These involve providing a sunken hollow nearest the edge of the playground and creating a mound behind that with a wooden fort on top!  A berm (raised path) will run in the shape of a backwards ‘S’ round the edge of the hollow to the fort.  This is linked in part by a wooden bridge and also has a wooden gangplank leading off it and a tunnel through it to further enrich the children’s play experience!  This will cost the PTA in the region of £7,000.

An extract of the plan can be viewed at: http://www.stjohnsptaproject.btck.co.uk/

However, please be aware that this plan also shows proposed plans for subsequent phases of the playground project, as it is intended to add to it as more funds are raised and/or other resources become available.  Indeed it is thanks to the volunteers who spent a very wet February half-term building the stage area that we are even able to consider implementing phase 2 so soon!

Can you help?

Could you provide Harris fencing to go round the proposed play area (approx. 70 metres), probably for the first two or three weeks of June while construction is ongoing?  This is necessary to allow the children out to play during this time.  If this could be provided for free or at cost, it would enable severely limited PTA funds to go further and to have a more direct benefit for the children.

Could you remove the existing trim trail?  If so, please speak direct with Mrs Clarke in the office about the school’s requirements.

Camp Out: 18-19 June

Come and join us for the annual camp out on the school playing field.  Just £10 a pitch!  This gives families a chance to camp in the safe but sociable school environment. More details and booking forms will follow shortly via book bags!
